convention trade number 3

Hi all
Sorry I have missed posting.  No, I am not missing in action...just been busy at a TotSwap at the Fairgrounds on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  Boy are there A LOT of pregnant woman around.  I think I know what people are doing for entertainment in this supposedly poor economy.  I guess a little slap and tickle is inexpensive entertainment now..of course, 9 months later, watch out!
Anyway, here is another one of my convention trades.  This card was inspired by my dear friend, Linda from New Jersey.  I missed her at convention this year but we planning on going to the Stampin' Up regionals in Baltimore in October.  That will be a nice birthday present for me ...especially if some of my gals come too.
What Linda did for her card (and what I did too) was begin by rolling a large wheel.  I believe she punched out her squares but I used my paper cutter to cut mine.  The trick is you have to keep the squares in order because the design runs from one square to the next.  Notice the word "Blessing" going horizontally and the gratitude phrase running vertically.  The "thank u" is from the "Cute by the Inch" hostess set.  The little design at the bottom comes from the Artistic Expression set (gee I hope I have that name right - I am not with my stamps right now).  We will make one of these cards at the August 8 stampin class.  Thanks to those who have already registered for class...there are seats still available, first come, first serve.

convention trade #2

Hi all
I am back to posting live from home!!  Here is one of the first cards I made in quantity for convention.  To get the placement, first I created a template of square holes then I stamped in each hole.

convention trade #1...Eiffel Tower #2

Today I am sharing the first card I designed as a trade for convention.  Unfortunately, after I designed this one, I didn't have time to make up any more.... so this is the one and only.  But I still like it and will include it in my convention trades class on Aug 8th.  One of the sneaky pete secrets about this card is that the layer between the back ground medallions and the plain white base is not a real layer.  I had many strips left over from when I used my border punch and did not want to throw them away, so I created a faux layer.  Just attached the blue strips on top of the white cardstock to separate the plain area (which I had masked) and the stamped area.  Why do this? - well first is was a "green" use of the excess strips of cardstock I had - and I like to recycle, and second because it keeps the weight of the card down - avoiding extra postage costs.  Hope you'll come join in the fun on the 8th!!  Register now!!

Eiffel Tower

This card is a case of one of Gretchen Barron's cards with a bit of a tweak in it.  I tried to make it on glossy cardstock, but I have to admit, it did not turn out well - I kept "opps"-ing her and there...so I gave up and made it on whisper white instead.  (actually my model had a glossy Eiffel Tower, but a whisper white base).  By using markers, we were able to make the word "love" red while the rest was done in black.  Yep!  the flourish is from an old favorite, Baroque Motifs!!!!  This is the last card from the stampin session on the 18th.  Tomorrow you will begin to see the cards I made to trade at convention.

Friends Never Fade

Yep! we are still looking at the cards from the July 18th stampin session.

Here are some new colors!! Poppy parade!!  Pear Pizzsazz!!  Pretty!!  Of course, I used the Big Shot to die cut the rectangle -  easier than using the border punch!  Gotta love those textured embossing folders for the Big Shot too!!

S'more's!!!

My photography skills failed me on this picture.  The so saffron layer was put through the Big Shot along with the polka dot embossing folder and was attached to the card so the polka dots are face down to show the little impressions/holes - to make the so saffron look like a graham cracker.  My picture does not show it well.
When you open the owl flap it says "and many s'more!"  cute, huh?

Hydrangea!

Pretty huh?  When my stampers did this card they used Pretty in Pink instead of the Pink Pirouette ink I used so the flower on their card showed up a bit better.  I like the way the top note diecut can be turned to be short or tall - by using one of each, I was able to create a layer that mimiced the curves.  There is stamping on the pear pizzazz strip but I don;t think you can see it well.  As a demo, I earned this set for FREE when SU reveled the new colors.   That Concord Crush paper/ink is luscious!!

Roommate gift

Hi all
Thought you might enjoy seeing the gift I made for my convention roommate.  I got this long book at a local craft store and covered the front and back with Pawsitively Print DSP.  I was able to use the spiral punch on the edge of the paper and get the paper wrapped around the spiral - sometimes I have made books that did not match our punch, so I was thrilled this one did.  Gives it a more finished look.  The letters SLC  (ie Salt Lake City, 2010) were made with my Big Shot die cutting machine and metal flashing material that is used in construction/roofing.  I stuck each cut metal piece to a matching  chipboard piece then stuck them to the book.  I wanted to attach a pen, so I put three twill tape loops on the covers - two on the front and one on the back.  This allows me to weave the pen through the three loops, which keeps the book closed.  Handy!

In order to give the eyelets a finished look on the front, I inserted a silver brad.  Inside I added an envelope for receipts - we can declare some of our expenses on our taxes but you must have receipts. I also included some repositional tabs.  I like to use these books at convention because we do not have tables in the classes and so you are writing in your lap.  With these books you can cross your leg and rest the book on your thigh to write.  I often have ideas pop in my head as they are talking and I flip to a clear spot in the book to jot down the idea that might have nothing to do with the topic being presented.  The repositional tabs let you mark where you jotted down stuff on a particular topic.  Hope Diana enjoys her gift, even if she chooses not to use it at convention.

Upsy Daisy!

Yes, for this class we used a bit of the retired Bermuda Bay cardstock and ink - It's sad to see it go!  This is another quick card.  The trick on this card is that after we punched the border of the Bermuda Bay cardstock, we laid a post it note, to cover the border.  I did not want the stems of the flowers to collide with the eyelet aspect of the border.  The post it note kept that area clean.  Wouldn't you enjoy receiving this cheery card?  Don't you know someone who would enjoy receiving this card?

By the time you see this post, I be on my way to the Stampin' Up! Convention in Salt Lake City ...can you spell fun?  Maybe you would enjoy coming with me next year!  Let's talk about it.

Gorgeous use of cotton flowers!!

When I saw a similar card on Lisa Freeman's blog I knew I had to try it.  Some folks like to die their cotton flowers or color them with inks but that means you have to wait for them to dry - when I get a moment to stamp, I usually don't have time for the drying process.  But stamping directly on the flower is a great solution and makes a gorgeous focal point for the card!!! The same stamp was used to create the background at the top of the card.  The half pearl adds a spot of elegance too!  The border at the bottom was created using Stampin' Up!'s new Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border punch.  Love it!!

Sweet little greeting!

hi all!!   isn't this a sweet little card?  The delicate little heart border is so dear!!!  What I really like about this simple card is the texture - the punched border, the grosgrain ribbon, the scallop border on the crushed curry layer. The white rectangle is a sizzix die cut - a quick way to create a border/layer. Thanks to Stasia Sloma for the inspiration!! Whip up a few today!!

Hoot... hoot.... hoot!!

Here is one of the cards we made today in my stampin session...

Isn't he the cutest?!?!?  Peeking out of his tree!!!  The trick to this card is that you have to punch a hole in the DSP.  Then you put the DSP on the card front and punch the hole again, right in the middle of the hole in the DSP - now you have a hole in the card front.  Now those of you who come to my classes know that I like to have white inside my cards, so you would attach the folded white c/s to the back of the brown and then punch that same hole one more time.  The punch is just not strong enough to go though all of the layers at the same time but if you do it this way - it works great!  The owl is actually on a branch from the bird punch, on the inside of the card.  This little owl punch is such fun!!!  I recommend that when you punch him, you punch three different papers, then use all those parts for layering three unique owls.  If you only use two papers for the layers, you will end up with a "positive" and a "negative" image but if you use three papers you can put A on B and B on C and C on A - three different birds.  Card inspired by Jill Hilliard.
Come back each day - I have about 14 days of posts for you between this class and my convention trades.  Look for a special offer too!!

ornament flower card

Here is one of the cards we made at my last stampin' session.  We were exploring some of the fun things you can do with the ornament punch.  This is proof positive that the ornament punch is not just for Christmas!!
I saw this idea on Connie Babbert's blog and had to try it.  It uses several of my favorite tools such as the Big Shot, Perfect Details Texturz Plate, the ornament punch, and the scallop square die cut.  I also used an old pair of decorative scissors on the edges of the leaves to make them a bit more realistic.  Lovely, I think. Cards like this are fun because you can sit in front of the TV or chatting with friends and punch out a hunk of ornaments and sponge the edges then assemble the card later when you are back with your stampin supplies.

I want to send heart felt greetings to two friends tonight.
First, I want to saw "whoohoo" for my friend Howard.  Today his family had a celebration of him - as he has just returned from a stint in the middle east.  Did I mention that he is over 60years old?  What a great guy!!! We love you for your willingness to give medical care to our soldiers who are protecting all we hold dear.  June, so glad you have your hubby back home safely...remember we need to do a lunch soon!

Second, I want to send out hugs to my dear friend, Maureen who has been shouldering more medical "hits" than are imaginable.  So glad you are home from the hospital...even if you are turning into a pin cushion!!!  When you are ready I will be there to give you a hug..I'm sending it now mentally.  Love ya, girl!

Summer strawberry greetings

Thought I would share one of the cards from my stampin session on July 5th.  These strawberries were made using various punches.  I think the dry embossed bumps really help create the strawberry effect.  Cute, huh?  I am  selling my retired  punches, including the ones used to make the green segment of this small strawberry and the punch that made the small while flowers.  Contact me if you are interested in either of those. Later today I hope to post the list of the retired stamps, pads, ink refills, etc that I have left for sale.

The ladies who pre-registered and pre-paid for the session got to make a "bonus" project.  Now I did not get pictures of most of the tins but I did get a picture of Patti's pretty tin.

All the cards fit into the tin nicely, with plenty of room to spare!
