Post Stampin Up! convention trades class, part 1 #6

Hi all
Today's project is essentially a black and white project - with just a hint of color for a little pizzazz.  I received the card from Denise DeLawter (top), whose spot of color is pumpkin pie.  I chose to use retired rose red glitter instead (bottom). 

It doesn't seem to show up well in this picture, but the center of each medallion is colored with the glitter.  Denise's recipe suggests that she used a two way glue stick to attach her glitter but I prefer to use glue dots.  Stick the dot to the card front and then pour glitter onto the glue dot and press it on with your finger.  You don't have to wait for the glue to dry as the glitter covers all the sticky surfaces.
I sure have used my new border punch often since I got it.   It was very popular at convention - I even saw one lady use the little tiny leftover pieces as chocolate chips on a cupcake on a card.  Cute!

Post Stampin Up! convention trades class, part 1 #5

Hi all
This tangerine tango project I have to show you today is very close to a card made by Glenda Collins which I saw on line before I went to convention.  Glenda used two colors of embossing powder on her flowers but I chose to use only the tangerine tango.  The DSP is only 2" wide so you can easily get 12 pieces from a single sheet of 12 x 12 designer series paper.  I enjoyed using my Big Shot  to cut out the Top notes - such a great element for a card.   Hope you enjoy it!

Post Stampin Up! convention trades class, part 1 #4

Hi all
Today I'm happy to share a lovely card with you.  This was not actually a trade I received at convention but instead is an imitation/tweak of one that appeared in the Stampin Success magazine, a monthly magazine put out by Stampin' Up! for their demonstrators.  The set used in this project is a special stamp set called Strength and Hope (that is being sold to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Fund - for each set sold, $2 of the price goes to the BCRF.  This set is only available until the end of August so I encourage you to act now to purchase your set.You can contact me to place the order or do it directly through my SU website (peggyouten.stampinup.net)  This lovely card hinges at the top and was cut from a sheet of 12 x 12 cardstock.  You can get four cards from a single sheet of 12 x 12 cardstock.  I used the colors pink pirouette, melon mambo and rich razzleberry.

The trick to line up this card is to stamp the center butterfly in melon mambo first - you can use a parallel ruler to help you note where the center is.   Once you have that image in place, it allows you to easily place the top (pink pirouette) and bottom (rich razzleberry) butterflies evenly.

Post Stampin Up! convention trades class, part 1 #2

Hi all
Today I have a project for you that, at first glance, does not seem too special.  What is special about this project is that it is a  "green" one....it makes use of those little pieces of left over DSP that you hate to throw out but seem too small to do much with them.  I punched the postage stamp punch on assorted DSPs and then aligned them closely to one another.  The "thanks, thanks, thanks" stamp fits nicely as a layer onto the postage stamp blocks as a greeting.  Take a look....

The top card is the trade I received at convention from Linda Payne..the bottom one is the one I made.
No surprise the the quilter at my class chose this project as one of her favorites.  Imagine if each time you pondered over a small piece of DSP, you punched out a postage square and set it aside.  Then when you have a stack of them, you could sit down and assemble new cards for each 12 punched pieces you had.  How easy is that?  This would be a great strategy for a person who prefers to make scrapbook pages as they probably often have small pieces of DSP left over.  Easy peasy, huh?

Post Stampin Up! convention trades class, part 1, project #1

Hi all
Today I want to begin showing you some of the cards I got when trading at convention.  I usually don't like to copy anyone else's work identically - I feel I have an obligation to try to put my own mark on each project, so take a look.

The card on the left is the one I received from Jan Carlson.  Somewhere along the line I saw the technique where the stem was stamped on the background and the flower was layered on the card so I worked that idea into my version of Jan's card.  I used the stamp sets: Bold Blossom, Season of Joy (the flourish) and Button Button (the center).  The colors are whisper white, daffodil delight, old olive, basic black, melon mambo, tempting turquoise.  I love the fresh look of the card.

Hi all
Today I am showing you the last card I made for convention.  I think it is my favorite.  I saw a card by Connie Babbert that was great but of course, I like to put a bit of myself into my cards and I tweaked several aspects of the card.  I especially love the shimmer paint!!  Really makes it whole card pop!

Enjoy another treat!!

Can you see the medallion stamp in the background?   I made this card for a swap - 75 + 1 - that is a lot of die cutting and punching but i think they turned out nicely.  The flower image was inked with markers to omit the parts I did not plan to use.  Hope my ladies enjoy them.

Convention trades project #5

Hi all
Today I want to show you another fun card ....

When I saw these kids just floating along I thought about how fun it would be to hang out in the water just dreamin' along - so I added the word "Dream" on the bottom - this is actually a detail of a larger stamp that has a longer sentiment - Dreams is at the end...I just omitted the words and the "s".   I knew I wanted to use the blossom punch to make the thought bubbles - it worked great!!!! then I got the idea to use the ice cream images as the dreams.

Then I saw the words "so cool" in one of the word stamps.  So.....

Then I thought it would be cute to have one of the kids thinking sweet thoughts about the other - I did some girls thinking about boys and some boys thinking about girls.

So fun!!!

Convention trades project #4

Hi all
Here is another fun card for you...

Told you I was hooked on melon mambo!!  The yellow is DSP.  I used wild wasabi c/sthat is die cut  for the medallion behind the flower and pear pizzazz for the leaves (hand cut).  I was eager to try the new melon mambo embossing powder and so I did on the flower.  The ribbon is tricky - I will try to do a step by step on that after I return from Salt Lake City.

I am preposting these pictures so you will have something to look at each day but it is Monday night and I am having a dickens of a time because of the weather.   Really goofing up my internet connection.  Sheesh!
Here is another snowman book mark card.

This time the snowman is stamped on crumb cake c/s - when I bleached it left a vintage yellowed color.  I really like it.

Convention trades project #2

Hi all
Today I have a nifty card for you - a little out of season - but I know that some of you are so organized that you are already thinking holiday cards!!   You'll love this one!

This is a bookmark card - the snowman can be removed from the card and used throughout the year - a gift in a card!  Again, with this card, I used bleach to "color" the snowman.  You have to test each color of cardstock to see what the bleach will give you - cardstock has a certain percentage of recycled paper which can alter the outcome of the bleaching process. The highlights of the tree are done with a white gel pen.  Tomorrow I will show you another variation of this card ....come take a look!

Convention trades project #1

Hi all
As I am sitting here posting pictures, I am hours away from my flight out of Baltimore  to Salt Lake City for the 2011 Stampin' Up! convention.   Sorry if you will not be there with me ... but I hope you will enjoy my daily posts over the next week of the cards I made to trade at convention.  Hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I enjoyed making them!  When I return home I will share with you the fun and ideas gleaned while in SLC.
The first card is the beginning of my attachment to the color melon mambo......

The background on this card was made using the second stage stamp of the two step flower and bleach on Wild wasabi c/s.  The top and bottom edges are a strip of the new lace border punch on very vanilla c/s - cut in half lengthwise.  The melon mambo tag is one from the two tags die.  The flower is embossed in black and colored with bleach.  The flowered DSP is a Big Shot die cut with the new perfect pennants die.  There is a large circle of melon mambo c/s behind the DSP.  The greeting is stamped and punched with the modern label punch and then layered on the mover and shaper die cut of the same shape.  Check us out tomorrow!!
