Tree Projects #6

Hi all, Those of you who have been stampin with me for a while know that my favorite thing to stamp is treat boxes! This is our scalloped flap box - but the flap is sticking up, not folded over. We used markers to get the hostess set stamp colored green and red. The tree is embossed (Thanks Terry for lending me this stamp set - you're a peach!) I used some of the hostess DSP paper pack for the background. Some sweet treats stuffed in there would be fabulous. Wouldn't your coworker love this treat on his/her desk?

Added note (Friday night 9:50) Although this particular design is my own, I encourage all of you to go see Julia Bettencourt's blog (http://www.juliabettencourt.com/blog/?paged=3) for more great uses of the bag with scallops. ! I love Julia's blog!

upcoming fabulous new mini catalog

Hi Stampers,
By tomorrow evening, I have to decide which of my customers will receive the upcoming Stampin' UP! winter mini catalogs that I have earned. I have a limited number of them and would like them to be in the hands of customers who are really interested. Please contact me by 6 PM on Friday if you would like to be one of my customers to receive this amazing 40 page mini catalog full of wonderful and surprising new products that will be available until the beginning of January.
Gotta go work on my convention trades!

Tree Projects #5

Hi all
Isn't this lovely? This is a tweaked version of a card I saw on Dawn Olchefske's blog. In the past, Stampin' Up! lovers had struggled a bit to use this technique where you sand the dry embossed surface of the card. Because of the high quality of our cardstock, when you sanded on the surface, you still saw color. But our designer papers have a white core. I pressure embossed the paper using the Big Shot machine and a Stampin' Up! texture plate, then used our sanding blocks to brush across the raised surface. I think it has a lovely vintage look! Yep! I wasn't done yet - had to use my Big Shot again to cut the eggplant layer for the tag. I use my Big Shot so much that last night I took a break from stampin to clean up the area around my machine and make myself a bit more efficient. Don't get in my way when I am die cutting!!!
Hope you love it! I do!

Tree Projects #4

Hi all
This tree project has a decidedly winter feel to it if you could see it in person. We embossed the trees in iridescent ice embossing powder. It glistens! With another greeting on there it could easily be a Christmas card! Love that top note die!

Trees projects, #3

Hi all.
I was thinking about the way trees change from season to season when I designed this card. You know, that pale green when the trees are freshly blossoming, deeper green in the summer and then the gorgeous colors of fall. And here is how I captured the image. Of course, I had to work in my favorite new punch the modern label punch and its companion die cut. Love it!

Tree Class Project #2

Hi all,
Sorry I wasn't able to post on Saturday and Sunday, but I am here today to begin to share with you six more of the projects from my Sunday 7-26 class. The first project (the blue birdhouse) was posted last week.
This project was inspired by one seen in the July 09 Stampin Success magazine for demonstrators. I fiddled with parts of it and used our new In Color inks - great colors!
Special shout out to Vicki who joined us to stamp. She started out a bit hesitant but blew us all away when she was the second person finished! Woo hoo, Vicky! Hope you come to play with us again!
note: the bottom layer of this card is naturals white - it didn't show up well on my white classroom tables.
I will be adding a note to my blog when Stampin' Up! announces the new special for this week. Nighty night

Late night flash

Hi all - I have just uploaded project photos for you to see throughout the next week. I think you will find at least one you love. In the meantime, I wanted to say that after long hard thinking I have decided that I AM going to have a class on Sunday, August 2 (just before I take off for convention). Instead of doing 6-8 different projects, I am going to offer 4 different projects, and you will make two of each project. For those of you who lament that it is hard to give away your cards once you make them, this is the class for you!! You can keep one and still have another one to give away! You will go home with 8 finished projects. At this point I plan to include the "trades" I have made for convention. I will need to hear from you by Friday, July 31 at 6PM if you plan on attending. Hope to see you there. Stay tuned to my Stampin' Up website for classes I have planned for August.

Big Shot project #5

Hi all
I love sweet little treat containers such as this one, which is filled with Hershey nuggets (you have to put them in just right to get four to fit - basically the end of one nugget touches the side of another). It was made using some retired double sided decorative c/s, the Big Shot, the bitty box and envelope die, the heart movers and shapers die, and the heart hand held punch. I used the piece that was cut out of the lid to make the smaller heart using the hand held heart punch. A piece of acetate is on the inside of the window and the heart is attached on the outside of the window. Wish you had been with us to make these swell Big Shot projects! Join us next sunday to make some "tree" projects - including lovely as a tree (thanks to Terry for lending me her set for the class - hugs!!) Nighty Night

uh oh!

Hi all,

I have been looking at my pink popper post, trying to figure out why it looked funny. Then I realized that I had not taken a picture of the finished project - I took one "in process". So here is what it looked like at the end of the class. Ahh! now it feels better.

Big Shot Creativity part 4

Hi all
The general directions to make this big popper project was shared with demos on the SU! website. I love how easily this box can be made bigger or smaller to fit whatever you want to put inside. And once you open the end you can easily reclose the box. Neat!

Big Shot Creativity part 3

Hi all.
Isn't this box too dear?!?!? Does it look like the ice cream sandwich I posted on Monday? It should! It was made using the same basic format - but we added a stack of the Daisy #2 die cuts with a corduroy button in the center to finish it off. Thanks to Kerin Sylvester for this project. Wouldn't this look nice on your desk?

Big Shot Creativity part 2

Hi all, This fabulous project is the combination of two projects I found on the internet. I found this lotus - water lily on Connie Collins' beautiful site. But heck! It needed the perfect base to show off how gorgeous it is. Well, then I saw the niftiest box by someone named Vicki Hook. She had used a score pal to make the box and honestly, I was getting kinda confused by her instructions. There was nothing wrong with her instructions but I do not have a score pal and so I did not have the reference points to understand what she wanted me to do. I am good, spatially, and I understood that base of the box was 2 7/8 square and stood 3" high so I was able to work out the other measurements. To me, the grasses stamp was the perfect companion to this lotus flower and I was thrilled to add the horizontal slot punches to make some of the grasses look like cat tails. That idea has been around a long time but I think this was the first time I have used it.The fact that the box is held together with the belly band of the four grass pictures means you can open the box without destroying it. Have to admit that I did put a dot on the grass picture and its companion green side of the box so I can slip it on and know that I have the correct alignment. I love this project. It is not for the faint of heart but it is worth all the steps. My husband was impressed - he always likes the "mechanical" projects - it's the engineer in him!! Of course, the gals loved it too - we all know exactly who is going to receive our boxes!!

Big Shot Creativity Class

Hi all
Here is a silly little box that we made today during my stampin session. It's an ice cream sandwich which I found at the Mega Stamppin Studio. It's a little hard to see in this picture, but the top of the sandwich was texture embossed by the Big Shot - and of course, the top and bottom of the sandwich are made from scallop die cuts. The center section of the sandwich is made by attaching c/s bands to each scallop - one slightly smaller than the other. This is a fun little box that would be a great way to give an ice cream party invitation or gift card. Visit again tomorrow to see what else we made!
Nighty Night note: see "how to" below for details....
Peggy

How to...

In answer to a query about the ice cream sandwich:
I cut 2 long strips of white c/s (9 7/8 x 1 1/2) and (9 1/2 x 1 1/4); scored 1/2" in from one long side on each; then I fringed each by snipping the piece along the 1/2" about every 1/4" from the long end to the score, attached sticky strip to join the short ends of the strip to form a circle, folded the fringe inward and then attached sticky strip to the fringe and stuck it to the scallop circle. Repeat the process with the second piece. Note: I searched around my stamp room and found a metal tin that the larger circle fit around beautifully to help hold the shape as the white band was stuck to the scallop circle - it helped a lot. I should note that the longer/ wider piece should be attached to the top scallop and the narrower/shorter piece should be attached to the base. If you need pictures, let me know and I'll TRY to take some to show what I did. thanks for looking...and commenting!

Bird in a tree - and a personal reflection

Hi all
Tonight I am sharing a card with you that we will be making at my class on July 26th in my stamp room in Perry Hall. This is a 3 x 6 card which fits into a bill paying envelope. I want to tell you that this card was inspired by one from the December 2008 issue of Stampin' Success Magazine (a magazine for SU demos). The artist's name was not listed so I assume this is a "corporate" card - that is, it was made by an employee of Stampin' Up! The bird house was made from three hand-held punches and is my own unique element. Now, why in the heck did I go into all that detail? Well, a comment was made to me recently about the fact that some of my class projects have been "taken" from others on the internet and such. I have been thinking about the comment and have felt upset. Tonight it all became clear to me what was bothering me about the comment which seems to be a criticism. Here it is....The thing I LOVE about being a Stampin' Up! demo is that I find stampers, more than any other crafters, are the most generous people. They love to share their ideas and are flattered by others' interest in their projects. They create projects with the sole intent of giving them away! I stamp original projects for my classes but I also spend hours surfing the internet and reading magazines to find the most current and fabulous projects out there to share with my gals...and I honestly tell the gals when the idea is copied or originated elsewhere. I try to always give credit when I know who to give the credit to and I usually tweak the ideas to add my own mark on the projects. I do this in the atmosphere of sharing. I recently took a class on the brain where the concept of innovation was discussed. Experts have found that very few ideas are the unique output of one person. Most ideas are the subtle mix of elements, spun together, with repeated enhancements as the idea evolves. I love that notion! I pass my ideas onto others and gratefully receive theirs as well. I am here to add some joy to my own life, to the lives of my stampin' friends, and to the lives of people lucky enough to receive our handiwork. I will continue to pass on as many of the amazing ideas I see out there as I can. Warmest thanks to those of you who come back to visit me here. I'd love to have you join us at a class and I am always here to help you and your friends at a workshop. Stamp on!!

071209 mini card and tin class

Hi all
Tonight I am showing you the fun project we did at last Sunday's Stampin Session. I really enjoyed putting this project together!! When I realized that the scallop die cut envelope fit beautifully in the mini lunch tins I had, I was off and running!! The idea was to show that with one set of stamps of the same size (such as Oval All for four of the cards) and a format for the card, you can make a variety of cards with little or no difficulty, just by mixing and matching. We also used the Circle Circus stamp set to make four of the cards. The final group of four used several different sets. The gals made their own decisions about which side of the DSP they wanted to show on the outside of the envelopes and which side they wanted inside. The DSP was the Razzleberry Lemonade DSP and some of the retired DSP such as the Bella Rose and Morning Sunshine. I made a nifty discovery about the magnetic movers and shapers which I hope to share soon ...after I can take some pictures to illustrate what I did.
I will be having another stampin session on Sunday, July 19th - we will be making several projects including two boxes using die cut flowers. Beautiful projects that I can't wait to share with you!

Fifth Avenue Floral card tin

Hi all

Here is the tin in which we stored the Fifth Avenue Floral cards we made at class on the 7-8-09.
The cover was done using the Tulipe die cut - the trick here is to lay the negative of the design on the paper where you want the design attached. Put adhesive on each segment of the design and attach it through the matching hole in the negative. When all the parts are attached, lift the negative of the design and it will look great!
On the inside we had ribbons attached to the insides to tie around the envelopes and the cards. Under the envelopes is a scallop edge envelope to hold postage stamps.

Fifth Avenue Floral #6

Hi all
This is the last card of the six we made at my Fifth Avenue Floral card tin class. Have to admit, this is my favorite one of all. The medallion in the center was made from a scallop die cut then I used a tear drop hand held punch ( non-SUP!) in each bump of the scallop - it really made the center of the card pop!

Fifth Avenue Floral carde #4

Hi all
This card was made based on the directions offered by Patty Bennett. The shimmery white c/s is run through the big shot in the textured impressions folder. The a brayer is used (two different colors) to bray the back of the card - everywhere the Big Shot impressed the paper is a gulley and the ink does not stick there. Try it! Don't have a Big Shot? You should come to my classes - you get to use my Big Shot to make a variety of projects without having to buy the machine.

I'm excited!!

Hi All!
I have just finished setting up the room for tomorrow's (or should I say, later today's) stampin' class and I am excited about the project. We will be making 12 mini note cards with envelopes using the scallop envy die cut. They really turned out great!! We will also be covering the front and back of a mini lunch tin to store the note cards. Can't wait to take some pictures to show you! I am thinking of selling this set as a kit but will have to make some adaptations as I used some retired In Color papers and Cardstock - my supply of those is really down now. Hope my gals enjoy the project!!
This has been a long day that started earlier for me than usual. Usually, in the summer, I sleep in late and stay up really late - like tonight - I am a natural night owl - always have been. But today we took my son to get his birthday present - went to a place in DC to get it - and then came home to assemble it. I've been working all evening on prepping for class. Hope I don't hassle with insomnia tonight!!
Nighty night.

Fifth Ave Floral class card #1

Hi all

This card is based on one done by Jenn Diercks. It is a great layout because it makes use of those small pieces of Designer Paper that you cannot bring yourself to throw away but are too small to do much with...a ha! whip out your punches and go to town!! This card fit into the class plan because we were making cards to fit into a tin so the cards needed to be thin ...easy on the thick embellishments. This card worked perfectly!
Love to see what you can do with this layout!

whooops

Hi all -
In answer to your question, Michelle. The card carrier tin (look back two posts) was purchased as part of a group buy and the lady who did the buying would not reveal where she got them. Luckily I bought enough for a couple of my stamp classes. Perhaps if you post on a online group, someone could guide you. Or you might check a company - I think it is called Uline - I believe they are DVD cases.
thanks ,

Riley's memory tin

Hi all

Tonight I have pictures for you of my latest baby memory tin which I was asked to make for a coworker to give to her friend. The colors were to be green and blue and the theme is giraffes. I peaked at the bedding the mother had chosen by looking at a link on the web and I think I got a pretty good match as the bedding has various colored stripes. I have just now finished the tin and will be delivering it tomorrow - hope Jill loves what I did. When I begin to make a tin, I never know exactly what it will look like in the end - I start with a general idea and the particulars evolve as the tin is constructed. I really like this one!! The only stamping is the spots on the giraffes which I did with a narrow sponge dauber on a stick. The letters are from the retired Stampin' Up! collection but I did not stamp them on this paper. Instead, I stamped them on scrap paper, then cut them out and traced them onto colored cardstock. After I finished the front letter, I layered it on a darker cardstock and hand cut it slightly larger. The grass is a sizzix die cut and the smallest giraffes are also die cuts. The medium and large giraffes were made by enlarging the dies on a copier and cutting them out and tracing them onto cardstock. The tree is a sizzix die cut and the leaves are a Stampin' Up! /Sizzix die. The clouds are actually a long sizzix mountain die stuck on upside down.

Cheep talk tin

Hi all,
Can you tell that I have no control over my pictures? Frustrating!! No matter what order I select the pictures (forward, backward or randomly) they never show up the way I want them to. Since I am not computer savvy, I guess I am lucky they show up at all!!

ANYHOW, there are three pictures: one of the cover, which I love!! I think it turned out soooo cute! and two pictures of the inside of the tin. One of the pictures shows the inside with the envelopes in place on the left side - tied in using retired old olive ribbon - and another picture with the envelopes removed so you can see the little die cut scallop envelope for storing postage stamps. The ribbon on the right side of the tin is not Stampin' Up! We used that ribbon because it made a nice flat (not too bulky) ribbon to hold in the cards. Tight squeeze!
