Fall projects, #2

Hi Stampers
We didn't do too many cards at the Fall class but we did do this cool card!!

Essentially it is a sleeve - inside the sleeve is a room deodorizer - but it could just have easily been a gift card or candy bar.  When you pull up on the ribbon, the treat slides up.  Love it!!

Fall projects, #1

Hi all
Today I want to share one of the projects we made at the Fall project classes.  This door knob hanger allowed me to use one of my favorite tools, the BIG SHOT!!   whoo hoo!

We used the Serif Essentials letter dies and the Leaves #2 die.  Fun!  We covered a piece of chipboard with the DSP and added eyelets to the top corners.  The letters are attached to the chipboard using dimensionals - that allowed us to slip the leaves underneath.  A bit of retired organdy ribbon to the top and voila'  ... a nifty door knob hanger or wall decor.

Make and Take

Hi Stampers.
Hope you all are enjoying dry weather.  I have had enough of WET!
Tonight I have a make and take from a recent workshop to show you.

Seems that you can never have enough birthday cards!!   It's hard to tell, but the dazzling details highlights the sprinkles on the icing.  This is an easy card to imitate since any DSP would look good behind the cupcake layer.  Give it a try and send me a picture of your project using Stampin' Up! stamps and I will post it to this blog.
Have you contacted me about coming to the Halloween stampin session on Sunday?  I have a few seats still available.   Never been to one of my classes?  Feel welcome to join us - you won't be the only first timer.

Good day!

Hi all
I seem to be very busy lately but know that I am busy preparing for the many upcoming classes ...so even if I am not posting, I am thinking of my stampers!!  My classes were very small this weekend but very pleasant.  I so enjoy chatting with my ladies!  Then the Ravens had an incredible game!  Good day!  and oh wow!  we only have four days of school this week...really good!!
I want to quickly show you one of the projects the guests at my last workshop made as a make and take.

You may know that this is called a sour creme container.  We ran it through the Big Shot to get the spider web impression on the cardstock after we had stamped the bats on there.  This is such a simple way to make a treat - of course, there are candies inside.  fun and easy.
Have a great day!

Holiday stamp a stack, part 1, project 5

Hi stampers!
Tonight I want to show you the last card from the first holiday stamp a stack.  This was nearly everyone's favorite.  It was inspired by one made by Jackie Topa but I made some adjustments so the ladies would not have to hand cut out the snowman - that would be too time consuming for a Christmas card.

The fun part of this card is that the snowman (and the snowflakes) is made white by bleaching the baja breeze cardstock.  Fun!  The fun little wreath was made by punching a circle, then punching the boho blossoms punch around the hole.  The bow is made from two rotated hearts.  Cute!
I can repeat this class for you and your friends...contact me today

Holiday stamp a stack, part 1, project 4

Hi stampers!

Sometimes, just to switch things up a bit, I like to make 3 x 6 cards.  They are easy to make if you have 12 x 12 card stock on hand because all you have to do is cut the c/s in quarters and fold.  Viola!  You have four cards.

For this card, we used two different designer papers.   I used different papers than the gals used because I had just enough paper for them - needed to make the model out of different paper.  The ladies were given the option of either making the accordian-folded medallion in the middle or simply use the flattened scalloped circle.  Some chose to fold the medallion, others didn't.  The folded medallion is made from two scalloped circles that are scored and accordian-folded and then the ends are attached to each other.  Behind the bells you will see the punched ornament - it turned out to be a great backing for the bells and was way quicker to cut.  We used two different shimmer paints on the bells.

This is the papers the gals used with the flat scalloped circle.  Popular card!

Holiday stamp a stack, part 1, project 3

Hello, stampers!
Today I am here to show you a card that was tweaked from one made by my upline, Sandy.

Sandy's card had the kings (from Come to Bethlehem) stamped on the card front, inside the oval, but I chose to stamp the kings and city on the inside of the card.  To do that, I die cut the scalloped oval out of night of navy c/s using the Big Shot.  Then I used the center portion of the night of navy oval to trace the oval onto the card front.  I hand cut the ovals using a kraft knife. (Ouchie!!! my index finger was numb after all those cuts!)  The gals stamped the image through the hole and then attached the night of navy oval ring.   I had pre dry embossed the cover of the card with the Big Shot machine and the textured impression Petals a Plenty folder.  A basic rhinestone was used to highlight the star.
nice card!  Thanks, Sandy!

Xmas SAS of 2011, pt 1, card 2

Hi all
Happy to share another card from the last holiday stamp a stack.  This card was inspired by a combination of several ideas I have seen from other demos.

This is a quick card - especially if you use my secret idea!!  I made a nine window template out of quilting template plastic - you could also use cardstock vellum to make a template! (I used the quilting template because it was going to be used to make more than 25 cards)    I cut out nine boxes and then attached the template to the card front using temporary adhesive.  Each image was stamped inside one of the boxes, alternating red and green inks.  After the stamping was done, we used markers and Dazzling Details to highlight the details.  The greeting is from the Grateful Greetings set and the small images are from the Jolly Bingo Bits set.  I think sometimes we forget that small images can be used to make full size cards by simply combining images or repeating the image.  The bow was tied before attaching it with a glue dot.  Are you curious about the green layer?  This is a die cut but I did not use the full scalloped square die because when it is cut out, it is too big for a standard size card front.  I hope to post a tutorial of how I got the smaller scalloped square soon.
Hope you like it....check out my SU website for the particulars about my upcoming classes at

Thebig reveal..cards from my first Xmas SAS of 2011

Hi all
Have to apologize for not posting sooner - my internet service as been having a hicoughing spree over the last few days and wouldn't let me in to post.  So frustrating!!

First I want to show you a popular card from my last class using the Christmas Lodge set...

Surely you can see the dazzling details used to accentuate the snow.  I love it!!   SOooohappy that Stampin Up! added it to our product line.  In fact, I love it so much that I gave away bottles of Dazzling Details to the first two ladies, Donna and Stacy, who signed up for the Xmas Stamp a Stack class with payment. I will have treats for the first two who sign up with payment (can be through paypal, by check or by cash) for each of my upcoming classes.  Who knows what goodie I will give next time!?!?!

The background paper is Nautical Expedition from the summer mini.  We stamped the greeting and birds and colored with colored pencils.  This card is very similar to one made by Glenda Calkins. Has a traditional look I think.  So nice.

While you are hear, let me tell you that I am adding two classes to my calendar.  One on Saturday, 9-24 at 1 PM and another (repeat session, same projects as on Saturday) on Sunday, 9-25 at 2PM.  Topic is fall projects.   Here's a shout out to Carol, one of my newest stampers.  After a lovely conversation with her  I realized that the things that operated on me to make me choose Sunday for my classes are pretty much non-existent now.  Especially the need to take my kids to their various activities.  My younger son now has his own car and no longer relies on us to get him where he needs to be (yes..we are entering a new era in our house!)  So I am giving the Saturday schedule a try.  Hope it appeals to those of you who have been frustrated that your busy Sundays have kept you from attending.  Give us a try!!

Final Irene challenge

Hi all
My card share from Terry Hirt is a cheery little card, sure to make someone smile.

Notice the new triple layer punch she used on the bottom right corner of this card.  With this new punch you can get three different details of the design - the night of navy layer is the simplest style and the white layer is the most detailed of the three options.  Don't you love having choices?

Come back tomorrow to see the first card from my 9-11stamp a stack holiday card class.  The next Xmas stamp a stack class will beheld on October 9th.

Irene challenge ..more flowers

Hi all
Don't know how the weather was in your area today but here in Perry Hall we had a gorgeous day...alleluia!!  It has been so long since we have had the kind of weather that makes you happy to be outside...loved today ..even though I was not able to be outside much today...long day at work, including a looong faculty meeting.

Our Sunday class was really great ...had a several new participants and even an old friend return after a big of a break....and then the Raven whooped the Steelers.   Stamping and victory all in one day!!

I have another of Terry Hirt's card creations to share with you today.   Will have another tomorrow and then I will start posting the cards from Sunday's stampin session.

Stay tuned...I am putting together a class to do the weekend of September 24 and 25.  I will offer the class on both Saturday and Sunday.  More details to follow.

Irene challenge ..another

HI all
I am sitting here preparing for my upcoming stampin sessions.  I have to tell you, the hard part of this is not dreaming up ideas to use in my classes, the hard part is narrowing down the jillions of ideas within reach. Oh sweet problem!!
In the meantime, here is another of Terry's wonderful hurricane submissions.

You can tell by her gentle handling of this image that she is a flower lover!  Way to go, Terry!

I hope you will take the opportunity to join us at a stampin session for some relaxation and fun!  There are several up coming classes posted on my website.   peggyouten.stampinup.net

Irene challenge

Hi all
Well I have finally confronted the enemy ..and I am victorious!!!!  I have finally managed to get Terry Hirt's lovely pictures into a format that I can post here.   Thank you, Terry, for your patience as I deal with my computer literacy limitations.  Here we go....

This card is quite gorgeous!   Clearly Terry has no difficulty with the more tedious techniques ...creating the lattice and making the delicate flowers.   So nice!  Only sorry to hear that Terry is currently laid up with a bum foot...at least she has a fabulous hobby to keep her busy while she recuperates....get well soon!
Thank you Terry.

Peggy

Where did I go?

Sorry stampers,
I haven't posted in the last few days...I have been busy prepping for my Holiday Stamp a Stack class on Sunday, Sept 11.  There is always soo much cutting in prep for these classes.  I should have accomplished more since my guys were gone for much of the weekend, attending the Grand Pris race in Baltimore.  What a treat for me to see my now-grown children enjoying an activity together other than an FFF activity.   What is FFF?  Well, years ago I worked with a teacher who called activities that you make your kids attend even though they don't really want to go, FFF - stands for "forced family fun"  Love it!  Anyway, my older son's hobby is the Baja race team out of UMBC - they build little cars from the ground up and race them (Davy is a BIG guy so he does not drive but he is fabulous at tooling special parts for the car.   Now my younger son is in an automotive program at CCBC so their interests are crossing paths.  Last Christmas, Davy gave John the tickets to the race as his gift - John was thrilled and is hoping Davy has that idea again this Christmas as he would love to go again next year.  They enjoyed the weekend immensely and my husband even attended on Saturday too - he came home hot and tired and compared the event to walking around Disney World.  He was very happy to see some Porsches race - his favorite car.
Back to work tomorrow ...I'm really looking forward to finally seeing my students for therapy tomorrow.  the school year is finally moving along!  Whoo hoo!
I have only a couple of seats left for Sunday's stampin session - if you would like to be in one of them, contact me now!!  have a good short week!
Want to send a shout out to my stampin buddy Peggy.  She had a birthday and turned another year younger!!

Simply scored

Hi stampers!!
Stampin' Up has added the Simply Scored scoring board to the current products in the Holiday mini catalog which is active today.  This is a wonderfully useful tool and SU has added some great features not found in other company's score tools.  They have nifty little markers that fit into slots at the top of the board to show you exactly which groove to score in - VERY helpful when you are scoring many pieces of c/s - such as when prepping for a stamp a stack class or when you are scoring cardstock for your holiday cards. Think how much easier it will be to make several boxes!!!
Note:  I am thinking I might use a sharpie marker to make the markers two different colors so I can use the red markers when scoring one side of the cardstock and the green ones when I score the adjacent side of the cardstock. I could score in one direction using the red markers then rotate the cardstock and use the green markers to tell me where to score in the other direction without moving the markers!  Cool.
My favorite feature is the centering ruler at the top of the board, just above the regular ruler.   I love how a centering ruler (with 0 in the center, and the inches counting out to either side) helps to cut/fold cardstock in half even if it is an odd size, without doing the math on small measurements.
Tonight (8-17-11) I went to use my brand new simply score board to score the center of a HUGE stack of top note dies.  Of course, with no straight sides, it is a little tricky to get a dead on straight line from point to point..  So (here comes my helpful tip...) I took my sharpie marker and rode it down the 6" groove.

Then I was able to run the stylus from tip to tip of the top note die which I had aligned to the colored grooves, knowing that I had not visually tracked the path incorrectly.

This is one of those tasks were aligning the odd edged side to the side of the board is not going to work!!

It worked great for this funky edged piece!!
