Easter Ramblings

Hi all
Hope everyone enjoyed a joyful Easter celebration with family and friends.  For me, the holiday is over and I have to be back to work on Tuesday.  Unfortunately, I am headed back to work a smidge under the weather due to a skin infection.  Just hoping the medication I got today will put me back to normal soon without any of those "side effects" we all hate.  I am grateful to whoever canceled their appointment with my doctor today which allowed me to get in and have it taken care of without having to miss work.  Felt like I had hit the lottery when the receptionist said she could fit me in.  Speaking of lottery - for years, when my kids were little, I set up assorted Easter egg hunts for the big day.  I have always included my adult guests in the prizes (silly things, such as gardening gloves, seeds, candies, etc) but with my "baby" nearly 18 years old, the egg hunts are long gone.  More recently I have handed out scratch off lottery tickets to all the guests with dessert.  Sorry to say, we never have big winners but we do enjoy the scratching and the hoping.  This year we had about four little winners out of the 24 tickets we scratched.
My husband always gives me a HUGE chocolate bunny - usually over 24 inches tall - for Easter from a local chocolate shoppe.  The funny thing is that I am very good at stretching out the treat - so much so that I still have a small hunk from the bunny I got last year!!  Now that is rationing!!  Dave also gave me a wonderful treat - a bag to carry my Nook with me to SLC this summer.  I am worried about putting the Nook down (or in the seat pouch) and then leaving it behind.  He got me a wonderful pouch that is exactly what I have been looking for online.  It is a vertical pouch with a zipper closure and several pockets.  It isn't very large but it will hold the Nook or my mini computer (or both!) with room for the cords too and it has a long strap so I can wear it over my shoulder.  I am so happy to have it.  Oh...and it is the first Vera Bradley bag I have ever owned.  I am not usually one for buying name brand goodies...but Dave is.  We found it Saturday at a local shoppe.  Really cool because the bag is colorful!!  Every one I saw on line was black... ick!  I wanted color!!  yeah...I got it!.  Hope you were treated well too.
Come back tomorrow for a lovely card!!

In honor of women class project #5

Hi all
I am pleased to show you a pretty little card today..hope you like it!!

Can you tell that these flowers are made from the owl punch?  How cool is that?!?!  I saw a similar card on a website - I neglected to write down the ladies name, for that, I apologize.  Unfortunately, she did not have a watermark so I don't know whose work it is. If it is yours, e-me so I can add your name.  Anyway...she used red owls for her flowers.  Great idea!!   I made my flowers tone on tone by using two colors (pink pirouette in front and pretty in pink in back).  I wanted a curvier look than she had so instead of using straight stems, I whipped out my old tulipe die and cut one out of old olive cardstock.  Then I cut the two sides of the diecut apart so I could manipulate the two parts to the angle I wanted - that allowed me to catch the bottom of the tag in the curls.  Oh..and I stamped the tag with the Four Frames stamp set.  The "Because I care" came from the set of that name.  The ladies card was a bit fancier because when I cut the Ice Cream Parlor SAB DSP, I gave them the part of the page that had the sweet little border - I used up all the bordered papers on the ladies.  I may go back and add a little trim at the bottom.
Think I'll do it now...hold on....

So do you think this is better?  I do!!

In honor of women class project #4

Hi all
This class had 8 great projects and I am excited to show you another one today.
Sometimes I goof....have I mentioned that before?  I think this project is an example of a goof..you be the judge.

I love the design that was inspired by one done by Barb Mullikin.  She didn't goof, just me.  I wanted to use her idea of sponging around an embossed image.  But I tried to match the ink to the new paisley DSP and so my sponging is done in Marina Mist ...to dark for my taste.  I did suggest to the ladies that they use baja breeze instead and it looked much better - the background ink didn't compete with the rest of the card.  Unfortunately, I was so busy taking pictures of another project the ladies did (each one being unique - yo'll see those later in the week) that I forgot to take a picture of the baja breeze version - trust me, it looked better.  I was pleased to be able to use the bird from the Clearly for you set - I think it is a heron - important to Maryland - but i could be wrong.  It was fun to show the newer stampers what embossing is all about.  It always delights people to see the the powder melt.  As we say, it is a wow!!.

I interrupt this string of posts....

Hi all
I'm on spring break from school and have been running here and there tackling important chores and meeting with friends I can only connect with when school is out. Today I met two great ladies for lunch.  We went to a nice little place with really great pizza - super thin crust so we didn't feel guilty that we were overdoing the carbs!!  yum!  I'll have to remember to suggest that place when my family is looking for someplace other than our usual haunts. When we get together to chat, these gals and I jump topics like hiccoughs and there is nothing funnier to us than ourselves.  I love people who are unpretentious.  There are enough snobs in the world so when you find real people, you like to hold them close.  Special thanks to Dar who treated us to the lunch today.  Totally unnecessary...the company was worth any cost the meal might have totaled.  She is a generous sweetie.  I was delighted that Judy was able to join us - it didn't seem likely that she would make it with her busy schedule taking care of other people's needs.  I'm telling you, these gals are great!  So glad we did not lose touch when we ended up at different schools.
ANYWAY... I want to show you what I have been doing over the last couple of days ...when I had a bit of free time.  The first full week of May is teacher appreciation week at my son's high school.  The PTSA asked for donations and I wanted to contribute something.  I anticipated that they would need  about 200 lunch favors - turns out the number is closer to 230.  Now making 230 of anything takes some time and it takes some planning to complete the task efficiently.  I chose a die cut box that used only a half a sheet of cardstock AND here is the good part....the box is self closing so I did not need to use any adhesive.  Wow!!!  That was a huge time and money saver.  This is not a SU die but instead an Accucut die I bought years ago, before SU started carrying Sizzix.  I am fortunate to have the big Accucut roller cutting machine so the cutting went quickly.
Here is the pile of finished boxes - three layers deep!

Here is a closer shot of the boxes.  The school's mascot is the gator so I used the gator from the Longfellows hostess set on the sides.  On the top I stamped "much appreciated" from the retired set of the same name (a four piece set on sale from me for $5 if anyone is interested) and "many thanks" from the also retired "All Year Cheer I" set (this 12 piece set is also available for sale for $10).  I used an old mini alphabet set to stamp the "U R" above the "much appreciated".

I laid the stamped die cut flat so you can see how I stamped the gators.  Amazingly I was able to get the front and back halves to match up at the corners easily.  Looks like he is walking around the box.

I hope you can see how I stamped these in this super close picture.  Inside each box are three candies (two different kinds).

Fun, huh?

Does your group need some favors for your special events?  Contact me to find out what options I have to make your groups treats!!   Other than the MANY SU dies I own, I have many many other dies as well. Boxes and containers galore!!

In honor of women class project #3

Hi all
Yo'al have seen projects here that were inspired by Kris Mc Intosh and here is another one.  Actually mine is very similar to hers.

When I made this card I became very aware of how much the textured impressions folders break down the fibers of the cardstock.  Normally I layer my textured impressions pieces on another piece of cardstock but for this card the white cardstock is folded at the top and the top feels quite thin after the dry embossing.  The flowers are made from an embosslit - and then they are crunched up, opened back up, and stacked.  I used my heat gun, heat and stick powder, glitter and versamark ink to create glittered brads to put in the center of each flower.  Oh - and I used scalloped squares under my flowers - Kris used straight edged squares.  My leaves are from the bird punch.
If this inspires you, be sure to send me you creation to post on my blog.

In honor of women class project #2

Hi All
This card has a lovely, delicate look which is so appealing.  It is a tweaked version of one I saw done by Mary Brown...I should say another great project from Mary.  Her work always catches my eye.

I worked the ribbon a bit differently than she did and I chose to use the die cut scallop square instead of the scallop border for the edge of the certainly celery layer.  I really like the fold I added on the left - just gives the whole appearance a little pizzazz.  I used confetti white cardstock for the textured impressions layer but the stamped image is on glossy cardstock.  The glossy really takes the ink nicely when you are using pale colored markers.  I often use certainly celery and so saffron together.
Like it?

In honor of women class project #1

Hi all

We had another great class on Saturday and I know you are going to enjoy seeing the projects over the next week.
The first project was CASED from Selene Kempton and Tammy.

This is a great layout that can be used in any colors and with most stamp sets.  Although you can use your square punches (or even your scallop square punch or the upcoming postage stamp punch) for this card I actually just cut my squares with my paper cutter.  I'd love to see your creations using this layout ...email them to me and I will post them here.  My colors?  concord crush, peach parfait, pear pizzazz.  Nice, huh?

Easter class project #8 negative punch

Hi all
Whoops!  Just realized I never posted this project from my easter class.  It is gorgeous!!

This card was inspired by one made by Kay Kalthoff.  Hers was done in blues and vanilla and used newspaper print background paper.  I used the Razzle Dazzle and Charming sets.  The colors are regal rose, melon mambo, pink pirouette and certainly celery.  It was my favorite of the group.  Hope you are looking forward to a blessed Easter.  Those of us in the school system here start our spring break after tomorrow.  Alleluia!!!
My next class is on Saturday so I will start posting those projects soon...come back for a  look-see.

greetings!!

Hi all
Just wanted to stick my head in here and say hi!  Did you have a good evening?  I spent the early part of the evening getting my numbers together so my husband could take all our goodies to the tax man.  I hate that job.  When we got married I made my husband promise me one thing - that he would take care of getting the taxes done each year.  Ick!!
BUT then I jumped back into stamping!! yeah!  Even though I still have two progress reports to write and several assessment reports, I HAD to stamp.  I was suffering from withdrawal from stamping.  I started to make a card I had seen on line but by the time it was finished, the only similarity was we both used the same stamp set.  I think the card came out beautifully and I cannot wait to show it to you- but I will.  It will be posted after my class on Saturday.  Hope to see you there!!

Easter class project #7 egg tree step card

Hi all
Hope you all are feeling warm and sunny!  Today I drove through a somewhat rural area to a local volunteer fire station where my family and my friend's family enjoyed another Easter Bunny breakfast together.  We have been doing this for years....wish I knew exactly how long.  My older son is nearly 25 and I'm not sure if he was born yet when we started attending this annual event.  How is that for a family tradition!  There is something very warming about having long time friends.  Anyway, along the way I was cheered by the beautiful yellow blast of the forsythia.  Even though it is chilly today, the sight of that yellow always assures me the feel of spring will arrive soon to catch up with the calendar.

This card is a twist of one made by Mary Brown (no, really, that is her name!).  Mary's card had flowers on it but I thought it was a fun twist to make the flowers be eggs instead.  The hardest thing about this card is getting the cuts the right size in the right direction at the right spot.  I saw it on line and played around til I figured it out.  The gals materials included pre-scored/pre-cut cardstock so they didn't have to struggle with that aspect.  Fun card!!

Remember to contact me by Wednesday if you plan to attend my next class to be held on Saturday at 1PM

So sorry to those who faithfully signed up for my class to be held this Sunday, April 10th but I need to postpone the class until SATURDAY April 17th at 1PM - I heard today that my friend had a death in her family last night and there is a one day wake/viewing this Sunday.  Thank you for understanding that I need to be with my friend on Sunday.  Please let me know by Wednesday night (April 13th) if you will be joining us on Saturday.  I hope this class will be of interest to those of you who have been asking for a Saturday class.
Thanks for your understanding.

Easter class project #6 : pastel embossed card

Hi all

Today I am going to do a quick post of another card from the Easter class so I can get back to my reports.

This card began with the big shot and dry embossing....with the added twist of pastels (chalks) to highlight the raised image.  In addition, tags from a retired Easter set were added to the front bottom right corner. The white parts of the tag were also colored by pastel.   I have this retired (clear mount) set for sale if any one out there is looking to get it.  Just drop me an email.  I'll even throw in two pastel colors to the buyer.

Baby Shower party favors

Hi all
In between sessions of progress report writing this weekend, I met with a coworker for several hours for a stampin/punchin session.  The lady's very dear friend is going to be "showered" next week and my coworker wants to contribute the favors to the big event.  She wanted a monkey theme and she selected a container that really caught her eye.  Ultimately, I think she was sorry she had chosen that particular box because it was a bit more involved in the assembly than she realized.  Did I mention she is not a crafter?  I thought it went together very nicely - we made 45 of them.  Kinda cute I think...what do you think?

Tomorrow I will get back to posting the rest of the cards from the Easter class.  Pop back for a look-see.

Easter class project #5 carrot box

Hi all
Well, if your heart is with me, here is the update on my progress.....17 progress reports done, about 23 to go ...by Thursday!!!  Unlikely!!!  I trudge on!!
Today I want to share a fun little box with you.  This project was developed by Kay Kalthoff though I changed the green top somewhat.  I love the petal cone die and it is absolutely perfect for this project.

Hope you are excited to be prepping for Easter!  This coming weekend we are meeting one of my very dearest friends in the world and her family for our long standing tradition of attending a local fire hall's Easter Bunny breakfast.  We have been doing this for about 20 years or more....my kids will join us even though my younger son is nearly 18.  Some things just have to go on, no matter how old we get!!
Tonight my younger son auditioned to play snare drum with a local college marching band.  I could tell he really enjoyed his evening, even though he was amazed at how much more sophisticated the band is in comparison to the high school band he is leaving behind.  This is my laid back son - not inclined to be very competitive but clearly he is feeling the call to rise to the challenge to perform at a higher level.  I am so excited for him. It is fun to see him finding his place in the world.
Gotta go write an IEP so I can get back to my progress reports.  Who says teachers only work 6 1/2 hours a day?
"G'night"

Easter class project #4 card

Howdy on this dreary Saturday

Hope you are all feeling springy even if the weather is saying differently.
Here is another card from last Sunday's stampin session.  This card has the simple elegance that works for so many occasions...anniversaries, sympathy, birthday, thinking of you....
I cased this card from someone on line but there was no watermark on the picture and I neglected to write down the artist's name. I apologize.   I tweaked the color, embellishments, and images a bit but the layout is the same.

Nice, don't you think?  This is the kind of card you can make multiples of in different colors and be ready to use for any occasion.  My color scheme is very vanilla, rose red and river rock.  Nice, huh?
